They quickly realized they were extremely lucky to be able to access state-of-the art treatment at the UC San Diego Center for Eating Disorder Tretment and reserach and had excellent care that focused as much on training them to support revoery for the long term as it did in providing care for their daughter.
Their duagher and their family's journey was not easy or short and it was successful.
JD began to provide support foher caregivers through her memebership in the UCSD PArent Advisory Council and in online forums and began attedning professional conferences.
She is a Co-founder of World Eating Disorder Action Day, speaks regularly at conference and is a board member of F.E.A.S.T.
JD is best know for her "Full Metal Apron" approach to fighting eating disroders and her motto that one "must see the Beast toe slay the Beast."

Stress can have a impact on your health. The 5 year journey of the eating disorder with my daughter and life and running a business led me to feeling not well. My menopause symptoms were increasing, anxiety increasing and sleep was not good.
As I tried to handle it as I knew to handle health with natural supplements, it was not working. As I learned about how the adrenals are impacted, many other systems are thrown off.
A little about adrenal fatigue....that some many not think is a real thing. I just know that I was off and my health was impacted in a negative way with all this stress.
AND I was able to find some simple steps to reclaim my health.
The term "adrenal fatigue" was coined in 1998 by James Wilson, PhD, a naturopath It is a group of related signs and symptoms (a syndrome) that results when the adrenal glands don't function adequatlehy. He says it’s usually associated with intense stress and often follows chronic infections like brochinitis and pneumonia.
You can learn more about Adrenal Fatigue here on Web MD.
You can find these supplements that I mentioned on the episode on my website of Shaklee web site
