Grief and bereavement related to addiction and recovery was the start of my conversation with Nicholas Goodman . Nicholas is an Addiction Counsellor, Massage Therapist, Hospice Worker, Author, Troubadour, Poet and Writer. Nicholas Goodman has a background in massage therapy and psychotherapy. He has worked in hospice centers and has led therapeutic retreats in the American Southwest. In his work, he provides spiritual and emotional care to his clients, and has been privileged to companion clients from initial diagnosis to the moment of death. Our conversation was deep and therapeutic as I recorded this 1 week after the death of my mother.
What are the necessary sacrifices that one must make when they decide to come clean and sober.
And there is the hope of stepping into the promised land of a better life.
You can find more of Nicholas on his site.
You will find his book called A Moment with Grace.
You can also find him on Facebook.

Larry Brasfield shares his story today on my show. As he shares he believes that his addictions are a result of early childhood trauma. Being in and out of room so the 12 step programs the last many years have been a life saver for him. Mind, Body and spirit healing is the 3 legged stool of recovery for Larry.
Real talk here ...trigger warning if you have been through sexual abuse and traumas.
I know you will find it helpful and insightful as Larry shares.
EMDR is a great therapy that can help you uncover childhood trauma and reprocess and heal. Big T or little t traumas have great impact that can predispose us to addictive behaviors.
The Body Keeps the Score is a book that talks through childhood traumas and experiences.

The first 200+ pound weight loss contestant from Extreme Makeover Weight loss edition Jacqui McCoy joins me today. I heard her story while at a Shaklee convention and we immediately struck by her honesty and truth she spoke about how this experience which should have been such a high point, lead to years of more struggle with body image and weight and so much more.
We have become close over the years and I am honored that Jacqui is able to share with you today her story. She has gotten through the tough spots of counting calories and workouts and working so hard for something that she thought she wanted to achieve. The television show left her with her own eating disorder and much to learn about health. There were SO many extremes that they were expected to accomplish. She didn't even know how to be healthy after all that.
I know you will love this episode not just about the show but really about the NOW!!
You can find Jacqui on Facebook and IG here.

This time of year is one of celebrations , graduations from high school, college and moving onto college or the next phase of life. When someone is caught up in an eating disorder or addiction, they do lose out on these parts of life. And as a mom I have found myself grieving for a life I wish I had with my daughter., a life I wish she had with her family. It's sad and a reality. I find myself reflecting on this particularly now as my daughter , if she had followed a 'normal 'path to college after high school should have graduated now
I talk about the 12 steps, specially #11 , seeking after prayer and meditation and knowing that this path of my daughters is not her will or my will, it's really Gods plan and will.
Acceptance is key. Realization that grieving is ok . And what we can do during this time.
Have you felt grief like this? Mourning for a life you wish you had with your loved one? Would love to hear about it.

Lucy and I connect today about how she has connected with others and share so much to help others live their best life.
Lucy Forsting is a mostly retired psychotherapist who hosts a Synergy connection show,
Mindful living is identified by 4 legs.
* Intellectual
*Spiritual
* Emotional
* Physical
In our relationships with others we can work on filling those legs and having balance.
We have a wonderful conversation about so many things energy, spiritual, relationships and more.
She mentions Dr. Bruce LIpton : An American developmental biologist notable for his views on epigenetics. In his book The Biology of Belief, he claims that beliefs control human biology rather than DNA and inheritance.
The Synergy Connection Show is a podcast of integrated wisdom provided by experts in their field. The topics are varied and cover such areas as health & wellness, mindfulness, self-discovery and spiritual awakening. It is a synergistic meeting of the minds for today's world.
She also wrote a book called The Adventures of Miss Twiggs and you can find it here.

Richard Wasson joins me today from Ireland to have a great discussion of life. We met through Clubhouse and had a great connection over sharing stories of adventure, travel and life. He celebrates 2 years sober now and believes his life is so wonderful now.
Having a base is so important, be it with relationships with other friends or people Or with the God that you believe in. We talk about faith, about connecting the dots about our experiences, self sabotage, travels and books and not staring at the past. So often we don't listen to the signs and the whispers in the head that are edging them along.
Richard now shares his love of reading and inspiration in his club of The Success Book Club. You will find him on Facebook there. He interviews authors and also reads from books he loves and has learned from.
The books mentioned are :
Don't Push Too many Trolleys : By Ying Tan
Not Dead Yet: by Phil Collins

Remembering and Honoring my Mother. What she taught me to value!
Friday Apr 30, 2021
Friday Apr 30, 2021
As many of you know, my mother passed away on April 12th after a struggle with Parkinson's and Dementia. She did not suffer long and my whole family was grateful for the time we had to be together to say good by, share memories and support my father as he continues on with his life.
I spent much of the week following her passing to think of how I could honor her at her service. I was encouraged by my husband Tom to speak and I am glad that he did.
Although my relationship with my mother was not always good, in the 57 years of life that she gave me, she did teach me many things. I chose a few of those to speak and share about at her service. I wanted to share those words with you.
I am encourage you to see the good even when there may be struggles. Take time to reflect so you can see what you have learned from others, especially our parents, those who gave us life.
What have you learned to value from your parent?
I'd love to hear.
Share with me on IG or send me a text at 708-977-7326.
Live your life and life it abundantly and honor those who have gone before.
